Sandra & Gary are long time Canvey residents. Having spent time working on the Canvey Markets Sandra & Gary soon discovered their love of engaging with members of the public.
Not so keen on exposure to the Essex weather, they soon decided to rent a unit in what was once the Halcons building; taking their stock and trade indoors to launch GMD.
This enabled Gary to embrace his love of fixing lawn mowers, something he’d been doing on an ad hoc basis since he was sixteen. As well as launching a new venture purchasing second hand tools at M.O.D. auctions.
As the business grew they took on adjacent units, ceased trading in second hand tools and started to source new tools direct from the manufacturers.
In 2015 Ladbrokes vacated the unit they’d been operating from for a number of years, allowing the ever expanding GMD to finally complete the chain of units returning them to the single space it once was.
As long time Canvey residents, Sandra and Gary recognise the importance of giving back to the local community. They are trustees of the War Memorial Hall and support many local charities and organisations including Phoenix Club For The Disabled, Canvey First Responders and St. Lukes Hospice.
Every year they support local Island events such as the canival and boat race. They also provide the Christmas Santa Sleigh to raise money for Concorde beach.
Gary and Sandra happily support local schools and charities by donating raffle prizes for events.
